Character Creation
Learn about the character creation process
I used AI art generators to bring the characters of Shattered Reflections to life. While some of the artwork turned out remarkably well, others highlighted the quirks and limitations of AI-generated art. If you're curious to learn about the process, this is the place.

SPOILER ALERT: To fully enjoy the story without spoilers, we recommend viewing the character artwork only after finishing the book.
Creating the characters for *Shattered Reflections* was both an exciting and challenging process that required a significant amount of time and effort. It typically started with an idea in my mind, which I then described to an AI image creator. I would fine-tune the results until I found an image that closely matched my vision. From there, I fed the image into another AI generator designed to maintain facial consistency, evaluated whether the outcome was acceptable, and, if successful, used the AI to depict the character in different scenarios and outfits.
Since I chose to base the Bennett family on my real-life family, I used actual photos as the starting point for these images.
The process was often unpredictable—more often than not, the AI had a mind of its own, generating images that didn’t quite align with what I had envisioned. Below, I’ve shared some of the images I used along with their results. If you’d like to see more character art, be sure to visit the *Character Art* page!
Originally Sara was a potential alternate for Amanda.
Sara / Amanda Alternate
This character was not included in the book but was an option to be Amanda.
Amanda Alternate
Logan
This character was inspired by my wife.
Kari
This was an alternate version of Kari while I was still deciding on her character. This represents her "southern" persona.
Kari Alternate
This character was inspired by my second daughter. This image is from when she was 3 years old (the same age as Emma in the book).
Emma
Daniel
This was initially designed as a possible version of Amanda, but the age didn’t fit. As a result, Margaret was created instead.
Margaret
This character is inspired by myself.
Ryan
This character was inspired by my oldest daughter. This image is from when she was 5 years old (the same age as Bree in the book).
